Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

Do I have a choice where I get physical therapy?
YES! As a patient you have the right to decide where you want to receive physical therapy. We have a great article in our December 2009 newsletter which explains the importance of choosing your own physician, physical therapist, and any other healthcare provider you might need.

How do I pay for treatment?
We take all forms of credit cards, cash, and checks.

As a courtesy we will verify your insurance benefits. However, we also recommend that you call your provider to check coverage, as not all information may be available to us. Any charges not covered by your plan (deductible or co-pay) are expected to be paid at the time of service.

Will you accept my insurance plan?
We accept most major insurance plans. These plans include but are not limited to the Insurance Providers list below.

What do I need for my first visit?
Please wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing. We recommend wearing clothes that give us access to the part of the body we are treating. For your convenience we have locker rooms and shower facilities. Also, on your initial visit please bring your insurance card, a photo id and a list of medications you are currently taking. You are welcome to take a look at our new patient forms. We will take all of the information from you over the phone when we schedule your initial appointment. This will help make the registration process as simple as we can for you.

Do I need to be referred by my doctor?
No. McDonald Physical Therapy can begin treatment on your first visit, and treat you up to 24 days before a doctor’s referral is required. McDonald Physical can assist you in obtaining a doctor’s referral.

Do you see workers’ compensation patients?
Yes, because of our sports injury background, we treat the worker as an industrial athlete. This approach gets workers back to work faster and keeps them healthier on the job.

What should I expect during my initial visit?
One of our physical therapists will be spending 45 minutes – 1 hour taking a medical history and learning more about your injury or problem. They will then perform a full evaluation, testing the weak and painful area. You will also be treated during your first visit. Your treatment program can include: Manipulation, massage, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, strength training, hot packs, and cold packs.

How long will each visit last?
Your initial evaluation will take 45 minutes – 1 hour. Each visit after the evaluation will typically last 30-45 minutes depending on your individualized treatment program.

How often will I come to physical therapy?
Your number of visits and frequency will depend on your diagnosis, progress, and number of visits suggested from your physician.
